National Launch of Sustainable Procurement ISO 20400 in Sydney

The sold out national launch of, the Sustainable Procurement ISO 20400:2017 – the first standard of its kind in the world, held in Sydney at NSW Parliament House and sponsored by the NSW Government Office of Environment and Heritage, was a highly successful, interesting and diverse event.

There was strong cross-sectoral representation with attendees from state and local government, finance, utilities and infrastructure, natural resources and mining, insurance, property and consulting sectors, academia and not-for-profit.

Supplier capacity building within Infrastructure Projects

For over 25 years Coleman Rail has had involvement in (the delivery of) large-scale rail and infrastructure construction projects around Australia. Legislative and policy changes have seen an evolution in our approach to building capacity, using social procurement initiatives to achieve best practice outcomes in delivery.

We have collaborated with a number of Small/Medium Enterprise suppliers to maximise opportunities and/or impact. It may seem like business as usual to some, however the Rail environment poses many barriers to entry; If understanding the transactional nature of the procurement activity is the driver for success, then our collaborative and educational approach seeks to support SMEs and social benefit providers to maximise opportunities for inclusion and growth.

Analytics to Calculate and Track the Economic Impact of Local Spend

Unlocking the power of data to provide evidence-based visualisations has become increasingly important over the past few years, and that importance will continue to grow. Enormous volumes of data are collected through multiple systems and applications for most personal and corporate interactions. Harnessed correctly this data has huge potential to support the regional development and social objectives of government, not for profits and industry.

ArcBlue Consulting is working with a number of organisations and regional programs across Australia including the Level Crossing Removal Authority and the Geelong Regional Alliance (G21) to use commercial, demographic and diversity data to tell stories and use modelling and analytics to help develop and visualise program objectives. For example, in Geelong, ArcBlue has collected procurement data on local spend from a range of government and industry participants to calculate and track the economic impact of spending more dollars locally.
